I make functional and sculptural ceramics in stoneware and porcelain. My work is primarily wheel thrown, sometimes altered, with some hand building. My functional pottery was originally influenced by the the tradtional potters of piedmont North Carolina, especially the work of several generations of the Owen family from Jugtown to the Old Plank Road. My scuptural pieces are non-figurative, can be placed inside or out (they thrive on Vermont winters), range from two to five feet, and are especially at home in gardens. In all my making I strive for what is pleasing to the eye, pleasant to touch, and, sometimes, brings a smile to the lips.
